The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has confirmed the arrest of Blessing Benhura on fraud charges for allegedly swindling the Agricultural Rural Development Authority (ARDA) of Presidential inputs valued close to US$300 000.

In a statement posted on their official X handle, ZACC said Benhura, acting in common purpose with accomplices who are still at large, allegedly submitted fictitious names of 14 farmers to ARDA and received 64 tonnes of Compound D fertiliser, 15 tonnes of wheat seed and 60 tonnes of Ammonium Nitrate fertiliser.

It is believed that Benhura and his accomplices sold the stolen inputs in Harare and shared the proceeds. The crime was discovered when ARDA officials conducted a routine inspection and discovered that the beneficiary farmers did not exist and no wheat had been planted.

Benhura was arrested on December 15 and appeared before Harare Magistrate Marehwanazvo Gofa on December 17. He was remanded in custody to December 19 for bail ruling.
