Zimbabwe is engaging key stakeholders ahead of Expo 2025 Osaka.
This was highlighted during a high-level reception at the Japanese Ambassador’s Residence, and signals Zimbabwe’s determination to showcase its economic and tourism potential.
Ambassador Shinichi Yamanaka hosted the event that provided a platform for Zimbabwean officials to articulate their vision and objectives for the upcoming expo.
Foreign Affairs and International Trade Deputy Minister Sheillah Chikomo said the expo is of paramount significance to Zimbabwe.
“Expo 2025 Osaka presents a unique opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase its vast trade and investment potential on the global stage,” she said.
“We stand ready to position ourselves as a destination of choice for trade and investment, leveraging our abundant natural resources, skilled workforce and strategic location in southern Africa.”
Zimbabwe’s participation, themed “Beyond the Limits”, aligns with the expo’s broader focus on “Designing Future Society for Our Lives.”
Deputy Minister Chikomo said the nation is open to business and committed to fostering partnerships that drive economic growth.
Tourism emerged as a key focus area, with Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi saying it plays a vital role in Zimbabwe’s economic strategy.
“Tourism is the biggest export product that any Government can sell, and Expo 2025 is a golden opportunity for us,” she said.
“Japan used to be one of our key tourism markets, and we are committed to re-engaging and attracting more Japanese visitors to Zimbabwe.
“The Asian market is increasingly interested in eco-tourism, culture and heritage. Our pavilion will showcase our breathtaking landscapes, rich history and unique experiences that make Zimbabwe a must-visit destination.”
Industry and Commerce Deputy Minister Raj Modi addressed Zimbabwe’s industrial ambitions, aligning them with the nation’s Vision 2030.
“The expo provides a strategic platform to showcase Zimbabwe’s industrial potential, attract investment and build new trade partnerships,” he said.
“We aim to position ourselves as a regional hub for steel production, strengthen local manufacturing and expand exports across various sectors.”
Ambassador Yamanaka reaffirmed Japan’s commitment to strengthening ties with Zimbabwe and said Zimbabwe’s National Day at Expo 2025 Osaka will be held on July 16, 2025.
“The Embassy is excited about the newly launched Zimbabwe Pavilion website and mobile application, which will enhance engagement at the expo,” he said.
“We look forward to welcoming Zimbabwe’s delegation, including President Mnangagwa, to Osaka for this prestigious event.”
Ambassador Yamanaka said the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) is set for August 20-22, 2025, in Yokohama.
