Zimbabwe will on Thursday commemorate World Cotton Day (WCD) in Harare, focusing on farmers’ welfare, sustainable production, productivity and rural development.
This marks the third occasion the country has celebrated the day since its inaugural launch in 2022.
This year’s event, themed “Cotton: The Fabric of Our Lives,” will showcase various opportunities within the cotton sector, emphasising its crucial role in promoting international trade and fostering inclusive economic growth.
The event being hosted by Cottco, will be officially opened by the Minister of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development, Dr Anxious Masuka.
World Cotton Day was first launched on October 7, 2019, as an initiative by Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali, with celebrations being held annually on this date.
The Government has targeted to produce 189 000 tonnes during the 2025/26 season, an increase of 575 percent.
