A delegation from the Parliament of Zimbabwe attending the 85th Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) has paid a courtesy visit to Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Senegal, Ambassador James Maridadi ahead of the high-level meeting scheduled for June 3 to 4 in Dakar, Senegal.
The African Parliamentary Union is a continental inter-parliamentary organisation that brings together African national legislatures to promote cooperation, democratic governance, peace, regional integration and socio-economic development across the continent.
In an update, the Parliament of Zimbabwe said the visit created an opportunity for engagement on Zimbabwe’s participation at the executive committee session and broader diplomatic relations between Zimbabwe and Senegal.
“A delegation from the Parliament of Zimbabwe participating in the 85th Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union (APU) paid a courtesy visit to Ambassador James Maridadi, Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Senegal, ahead of the meeting scheduled for 3–4 June 2026 in Dakar, Senegal,” Parliament of Zimbabwe said.
“The Zimbabwean delegation is led by Hon. T. Karimazondo, accompanied by Hon. Senator F. Chauke and Hon. S. Matsunga.
“The courtesy call provided an opportunity for the delegation to engage with Ambassador Maridadi on matters relating to Zimbabwe’s participation in the Executive Committee Session and to receive a briefing on bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and Senegal, as well as developments within the host country.”
The 85th Session of the Executive Committee of the African Parliamentary Union is expected to bring together parliamentary representatives from across Africa to deliberate on issues affecting the continent, including governance, legislative cooperation and sustainable development.
The gathering is also expected to strengthen collaboration among African legislatures through the exchange of experiences and best parliamentary practices.
“The Parliament of Zimbabwe remains committed to actively participating in regional and continental parliamentary platforms that foster dialogue, collaboration, and the exchange of best practices among African legislatures,” said Parliament of Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has continued to intensify its participation in regional and continental bodies as part of broader efforts to strengthen diplomatic relations, contribute to policy dialogue and advance Africa’s collective development agenda.
