AFTER successfully completing the Level One coaching course on Thursday, Zimbabwe Handball Federation technical director Farai Gwisai says they are going to follow-up with a Level Two course in August.
The four-day course was catering for coaches that are going to take up beginners. It was held online from Monday to Thursday with 50 aspiring coaches taking part.
It covered the basics of the sport, from introduction to handball, qualities of a coaches, rules and regulations, handball signs, skills in handball, handball attack and defence formations.
They also looked at sports medicine and sports nutrition, handball equipment and facilities among other topics. Gwisai was pleased with the attitude from the participants and they are looking at holding a Level Two course next month.
“The course went well. The coaches were enthusiastic to learn and promised to develop the game from grassroots levels.
“They were assessed on practical and theory of which they performed to the required standards.
“End of August we are mounting a national Level Two course. It should be face to face,” said Gwisai.
Some of the participants were students from Zimbabwe Open University. The national federation is working on having a partnership with the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to facilitate more courses that include physical education teachers as part of its development programmes.
