THE Zimbabwe men’s basketball team beat South Africa 84-68 in the Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports’ Association (Cucsa) Games at the ZITF courts yesterday.

Zimbabwe came from behind to win the match despite South Africa dominating the first half of the match and going to the break leading their hosts 40-33. “This was an interesting match. We came from behind as South Africa were dominant in the first two quarters of the match. I am actually happy that we won this difficult game,” said Zimbabwe coach Emmanuel Mujuru.

“In the dressing room, I told the guys that we are not going to wait for the last quarter to win the match, that’s why we came from the break on fire. I also told them that they should use their height advantage because we are taller than them.”

He said Zimbabwe had to change their attacking style in order to win the match because South Africa were defending well.

In other games, Botswana pipped Malawi 55-54, while in the women’s section Botswana were humiliated 13-82 by South Africa. — @khumzallen
