ZIMBABWEA has for the first time qualified for the World Choir Games which will be held on 4 July in Tswane, South Africa.
National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Acting Communications and Marketing Manager Cathrine Mthombeni said there are two groups that were chosen to represent Zimbabwe in the World Choir Games, which are Children Choice Choir and Note2etoN that consist of children and adults with a common passion for choral music respectively.
“There are two groups that were chosen to represent Zimbabwe. Children Choice Choir consists of children from Harare selected from eight schools that are Government and Private schools, whereas Note2etoN is an adult community choral group composed of people who share a common passion for choral music”.
Mthombeni said the Ministry of Youth, Art and Recreation together with National Art Council of Zimbabwe were giving support to the two groups who are to fly high the national flag at the World Choir Games.
“Note2etoN Choir seeks to promote positive social values and norms through music and uniting the community, thus promoting healing where needed and cultural exchange. National support has been given by The Ministry of Youth, Sport, Arts and Recreation with National Arts Council of Zimbabwe is also giving national support to the two choral groups” she said.
She further said at the World Choir Games the Choice Children’s Choir will participate in the Mixed Children’s Choirs category two and Friendship Concert whereas Note2etoN Choir will compete in category nine of Mixed Choirs and category 27 for Scenic Folklore.
As part of the selection process for The Choice Children’s Choir, children went through an audition process in August last year and over a 100 children auditioned to join the choir and 46 were selected who were the best singers and showed the most potential. Those selected have been rehearsing weekly.
