The Zimbabwe School of Mines and Kamativi Mining Company (KMC) on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) resulting in the awarding of scholarships to seven students by the lithium mining company.
The beneficiaries were drawn from various departments, including Geology and Metallurgical Assay.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, KMC ESG Manager Mr. Stephen Liang said the scholarship initiative is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility.
“This is an important practice of KMC to actively fulfill its corporate social responsibility and support education. As a company rooted in Zimbabwe, we are well aware of the key role of education, personal growth, and social development.
“We hope to cultivate more talents with professional qualities and social responsibility for Zimbabwe through the establishment of scholarships. We will continue to focus on areas such as education and community development and contribute more to the sustainable development of Zimbabwe.”
One of the beneficiaries, Miss Antoinette Mutiwi, a third-year Metallurgical Assay student, highlighted how the scholarship empowers women in mining.
“I would like to acknowledge the representatives of Kamativi Mining Company for recognising us as women, as ladies, for including us in this beautiful opportunity.
“Kamativi Mining is trying to push forward the women in mining, and as women, we do promise to do our best in the upcoming future and now,” she said.
KMC Mine Manager, Mr Munyaradzi Muramba added that the partnership will contribute to the growth of the mining sector.
“We are now pushing the younger generation to be more equipped. They are innovative and creative and I think that will make the Zimbabwe mining industry flourish,” he said.
