ZIMBABWE senior men’s national cricket team, the Chevrons, continued their impressive run at the 2026 ICC Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup by securing a commanding six-wicket victory over the hosts Sri Lanka.
Sri Lanka posted a competitive 178/7 in the first innings courtesy of Pathum Nissanka 62(41) and Kusal Perrera who laid a healthy foundation in the first power play. However, the bowling contingent including Graeme Cremer, Ryan Burl and Blessing Muzarabani, working coherently alongside an aggressively motivated fielding side curtailed the hosts home advantage that could have seen them cross the 200 run mark.
In the second innings, Chevrons top order batter Brian Bennett starred with a well-crafted half-century, reaching a personal milestone in T20 cricket. Captain Sikandar Raza delivered an all-round masterclass to earn Player of the Match honours. Zimbabwe posted 182/4 in their alloted overs to upset the tournament co-hosts.
The result showed Zimbabwe’s pedigree and title contention as the tournament heads into its decisive phase.
