Zimbabwe’s farmers will soon start exporting avocados to China after the two countries secured a ground-breaking agreement.

The deal was sealed at the ongoing Forum for China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) meeting in Beijing.

In a statement on X, the Horticulture Development Council (HDC) said the development was expected to boost the country’s economy and provide new opportunities for farmers and exporters.

“Great news for Zimbabwe horticulture from China: Zim avocados can now be exported to the Chinese market for the very first time, thanks to a new agriculture protocol signed between the two countries at the FOCAC meeting, which is being held in Beijing,” the HDC said.

The agreement with China not only opens up a lucrative market for Zimbabwean farmers, but also reinforces the country’s position as a key player in the global agricultural trade.
