A TOTAL of 136 senior security sector officers drawn from the Zimbabwe National Army, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services, Zimbabwe Republic Police and the Air Force of Zimbabwe recently graduated at the School of Military Police at Khumalo Barracks in Bulawayo.

This followed the completion of six major courses aimed at equipping the country’s security forces with the requisite knowledge and skills to prevent, detect threats and safeguard Zimbabwe’s national interests.

These include; the Provost senior non-commissioned officers course 5B/25, senior investigations course pro 7A/25, basic dog handling course pro 6B/25, cyber and white collar crimes course pro 15A/25, warders course pro 14A/25 and regimental police course pro 4B/25.

Commandant Zimbabwe Military Academy and Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA)’s Brigadier-General Crispen Mhere Nduku, presided over the colourful graduation ceremony attended by senior uniformed forces commanders and family members.

“Cybercrime is now a contemporary threat being perpetrated in the cyber space and has given birth to enormous complications towards national security, economic prosperity and public safety,” he said in his keynote address.

“I, therefore, urge you to diligently and professionally use the acquired skills and knowledge for the benefit of the organisation.”

Among the courses offered, the provost senior non-commissioned course commenced early July this year with 14 students drawn from the military police unit.

“The course was designed to enable you to supervise and administer provost personnel,” said Brig-Gen Nduku.

“The course syllabi covered a cross section of subjects, which included classification of offences, duty room procedures, leadership and man management, investigations and public relations.”

To match theory with practice the graduands were given a fortnight of attachment in practical war time exercises.

On one hand the senior investigations course delved on the general principles of criminal law, law of evidence, scenes of crime management and docket compilation.

ZNA and Air Force of Zimbabwe officers were also trained in navigating both civilian and military court proceedings.

Brig-Gen Nduku said the regimental police course comprised 87 officers from various formations and units and was designed to equip the selected non-commissioned officers with basic tenets of policing in cantonment areas.

“It is now incumbent upon you to ensure that security in our cantonment areas is fully maintained,” said Brig-Gen Nduku.

“Remember, all our security measures can only be strengthened by your diligent and professional conduct of duty.”

He acknowledged the strides made by the ZNA in conjunction with the Air Force, the police and ZPCS.
