ZIMBABWE have set Bangladesh a target of 171 runs to win after recovering from a mid-innings slowdown to post a competitive 170 for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs in the first T20 International at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.
The hosts came out firing, racing to 54 for one in the mandatory six-over power play before maintaining the momentum to reach 87 for two at the halfway stage.
Opener Brian Bennett laid the foundation with a 44, anchoring Zimbabwe’s brisk start before falling shortly after the drinks break.
Zimbabwe had earlier lost Tadiwanashe Marumani for 14 in the fourth over, with the opening pair giving the home side a flying start.
The hosts brought up their 100 in 12.3 overs, but Bangladesh gradually wrestled back control through regular wickets.
Zimbabwe slipped from 90 for two to 139 for six, losing four wickets in the space of seven overs to stall what had promised to be an even bigger total.
Zimbabwe T20I captain, Sikandar Raza, chipped in with 20 off 13 balls.
Milton Shumba and Tashinga Musekiwa were dismissed in quick succession, leaving Zimbabwe under pressure in the closing overs.
Ryan Burl ensured the innings finished on a positive note with an unbeaten 30, receiving valuable support from Brad Evans, who struck 19 not out off 10 balls.
The duo ensured Zimbabwe posted a competitive target of 170.
