THE Zimbabwe team for the Confederation of Schools Sport Association of Southern Africa (Cossasa) ball games will leave for Namibia tomorrow.
It is made up of National Association of Secondary School Heads (Nash) and National Association of Primary School Heads (Naph) teams.
The team has been in camp at Founders High School since last week with athletes who represented their provinces in the just ended Zimbabwe National Youth Games joining the team yesterday.
The games which were supposed to be held in Lesotho have been moved to Namibia after Lesotho failed to raise the required funding.
Countries expected to take part in the Cossasa ball games are the hosts Namibia, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Lesotho and South Africa.
Zimbabwe will have two Nash Under-17 boys and girls basketball teams’, netball and a Naph Under-13 netball team.
There will be three volleyball teams that will include two Naph boys and girls’ and one Nash boys side.
In football there are two teams, one Nash girls and one Naph boys’.
Naph president Cynthia Khumalo said although it is their first time to participate in the Cossasa ball games , they expected to do well.
“The preparations have gone well so far,” said Khumalo.
She urged parents to support their children participating in the games.
“Parents and the corporate world should support these children. We are worried by some parents that are refusing their children to take part in sport,” said Khumalo.
The Nash girls’ basketball team won gold last year while the boys won silver.
The basketball boys’ team has four players that participated in the same tournament last year and these are Larry Takura, Tinotenda Chirara, Brian Maringwe and Tendekai Mangeche.
Both basketball teams will travel with six players each due to financial constraints.
Simon Lawson will lead the boys’ team while Pretty Tinaro of Highlanders will be in charge of the girls team.
