Zimbabwe to defend Young Lions title

ZIMBABWE’S 3×3 girls and boys Under-18 basketball teams will on 27 November depart for the four-day International Basketball Foundation (IBF) Young Lion’s Cup tournament in Botswana. 

Zimbabwe are two-time champions in the 3×3 Young Lions Cup in Southern Africa and this year’s event is scheduled to run from 28 November to 01 December.

Eleven countries that include Zimbabwe, hosts Botswana, Comoros, Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique, Lesotho, Seychelles, Namibia, Mauritius and Madagascar will take part.

Basketball Union of Zimbabwe (Buz) competitions president Yesaya Ignatious said: “We expect to shine in Botswana in a tournament which we won last year. This time around, in terms of team selection, each team will have a mixture of players that hail from different countries. We are looking forward to scooping more individual awards,” said Ignatious.

Girls captain Tadiwa Anna who was the Most Valuable Player in the girls’ category last year, will also be part of this year’s group that will be hoping to do well. 

Zim Under-18 Teams 

Boys: Mathe Taboyamlimu (c), Ncube Mthokozisi, Pedzi Tanonoka Shawn, Msasanure Tomuvonga.

Girls: Mabika Tadiwa Anna (c), Jemwa Samantha, Mwaudzeni Ruth Kudakwashe, Mugwagwa Shantel Tsitsi.
