ZIMBABWE has won the right to host the International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association (FIATA) Africa and Middle East Region field conference next year after outbidding United Arab Emirates and Egypt at the just-ended annual congress held in Singapore, an official has said
In an interview, the chief executive of the Shipping and Forwarding Agents association of Zimbabwe Mr Joseph Musariri described the victory as a boost to the country’s economic development that re-affirmed Zimbabwe belonged to the world trading family.
“We won the bid by secret ballot at the recent FIATA congress held in Singapore beating the closest contenders Egypt and Dubai.
“This is a milestone achievement for our country and we are looking at making the best out of it.
“The field meeting will be held in Victoria Falls between June and July next year.
“This development confirms that we are a member of the world in terms of trade and it shows the confidence the rest of the world has in Zimbabwe,” he said.
Mr Musariri said the annual meetings’ primary goal was to bring regional players together to achieve networking, disseminate best practices and be able to deal with issues and challenges prevailing in the respective countries and potential ways for their resolution using the FIATA mechanism.
“The ultimate goal of RAME to make sure that members are inducted in the various organs of FIATA.
“We need to take up the challenge and prove that Zimbabwe is a safe trading partner of the world.
“As SFAAZ we are very hopeful the meeting will be a great success and hence we are teaming up with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and other relevant government partners,” he said.
