The Government is set to introduce specialised degree programmes in mineral exploration and beneficiation at local universities to address the current skills gap and equip Zimbabweans with expertise to optimally harness the country’s vast mineral resources.
Skills Audit and Development Minister, Professor Paul Mavima announced this on his social media platforms.
“We are presently in the process of introducing a suite of initiatives aimed at bridging the skills gap and empowering Zimbabwe’s workforce,” he said.
“Notably, we are developing specialised degree programmes in mineral exploration and beneficiation, designed to equip our citizens with the expertise necessary to optimally harness our country’s mineral resources.”
He underscored the Government’s commitment to tailoring education and training initiatives to meet the evolving demands of the economy.
“This strategic initiative will guarantee the continued relevance and efficacy of our education and training systems.”
For a resource-rich country like Zimbabwe, investing in specialised training is critical for maximising economic benefits from its vast mineral deposits.
It is envisaged that the new degree programmes will enhance local capacity, reduce reliance on foreign expertise and promote value addition in the mining sector, which is key to boosting revenue, job creation and industrial growth.
