Zimbabwe Tourism Authority targets Asian travel groups to boost off-peak season

THE Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) believes that travel groups, especially from Asia, have the potential to keep the local tourism industry busy during the off-peak season.

Tourism is a seasonal sector, with visitor arrivals often reaching their lowest levels after the festive season and continuing until the end of March.
Travel groups typically help fill this gap, ensuring the industry remains active throughout this period.

The Asian market is a growing source of tourists, with many travellers from this region opting to visit in groups.

Zimbabwe is hosting nine travel agents from key Asian markets, particularly Singapore, Hong Kong, and the Philippines, on a familiarisation tour of the country. The agents arrived in Victoria Falls on Friday, with their travel facilitated by Qatar Airways, Thompsons Africa, and Gateway Singapore.

The agents were expected to visit the Victoria Falls National Park to tour the Rainforest and sample local cuisines and culture at the Boma Dinner and Drum Show. They were also scheduled to tour hotels and lodges to better understand what the country’s prime destination has to offer.
The ZTA said the Asian market is highly lucrative, with Hong Kong’s outbound tourism market for 2025 estimated at $863.2 million.

This visit underscores the growing appeal of Zimbabwe as a destination for both traditional and new markets. The Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry is focused on bridging low-season gaps by developing new markets while also promoting domestic tourism.
