Zimbabwe Warriors register second win in Cosafa tournament

B Metro Reporter

Zimbabwe registered their second win in as many matches in the 2024 Cosafa Cup with a brilliant display that saw them beat defending champions Zambia 2 0 in South Aftica yesterday.

A brilliant solo effort on the right by Manica Diamond’s Michael Tapera saw the Jairos Tapela coached Warriors get into the lead in the 7th minute. The second goal came from Ngezi Platinum striker Takunda Benhura who slotted in  a firm header off a Farai Banda cross from the left in the 43rd minute.

Tapera  has now scored two goals, after finding the only goal in the opening match against Comoros on Thursday. The win put

Zimbabwe at the top of Group B with six points and are sure to make it to the quarter finals. Zambia, who are the defending champions, are at the bottom of the group with zero points and will need a miracle to remain in the tournament going into the last group matches. They played the better part of the match one match down after a red card to one of their midfielders. Highlanders goalkeeper  Raphael Pitisi got his second cap and managed another clean sheet. Comoros are second, and Kenya third, both with three points.
