Zimbabwe Women High Performance Centre captain Adel Zimunhu has admitted her side fell short of expectations with both bat and ball after suffering a 33-run defeat to hosts Rwanda Women in Match 13 of the Kwibuka Women’s T20 Tournament in Kigali.
The loss halted Zimbabwe’s recent momentum in the competition and handed the hosts a crucial victory, with the visitors unable to chase down Rwanda’s total.
Zimunhu acknowledged that her side failed to execute their plans and paid the price against a disciplined Rwandan team.
“We are disappointed with the way we lost. We didn’t bat to our expectations and on our bowling side we struggled a lot with the white ball. We just need to work on that,” said Zimunhu.
The skipper, however, believes the setback presents an opportunity for the side to regroup and address the shortcomings that were exposed during the contest.
Zimbabwe Women HPC had enjoyed a promising start to the tournament and remain one of the teams capable of challenging for honours, with a number of players producing impressive performances in Kigali.
Attention now turns to Wednesday’s encounter against Nigeria Women, as the Zimbabweans seek an immediate response.
Despite the disappointment against Rwanda, Zimunhu remains confident her side can bounce back.
“We know where we went wrong and we have to improve quickly. There are still games to play and we need to come back stronger in the next match,” she said.
