ZIMBABWE Women are set to host South Africa Women in a historic five-match T20 International series at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo in September.
Zimbabwe Cricket (ZC) confirmed on Thursday that all five matches will be played at the Bulawayo venue on September 11, 13, 15, 17 and 19.
The tour will mark the first-ever visit to Zimbabwe by the senior South Africa Women’s side, making it a landmark occasion for women’s cricket in the country and the region.
Zimbabwe Women last played at home in September and October 2025 when they hosted the United Arab Emirates Women at Queens Sports Club.
Since then, the team has been on the road, undertaking major tours to New Zealand and Pakistan as part of efforts to gain international exposure and rebuild the squad.
The upcoming series comes at a crucial stage for Zimbabwe Women following a disappointing campaign at the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Global Qualifier held in Nepal earlier this year.
South Africa Women head into the series as one of the leading teams in world cricket. Ranked fifth in the ICC Women’s T20I rankings, the Proteas Women have established themselves among the elite sides in the shortest format after finishing runners-up at the last two ICC Women’s T20 World Cups.
Despite facing South Africa Women’s Emerging side on several occasions, Zimbabwe Women have only met the senior South African team twice before, during an ODI quadrangular series in Potchefstroom in 2017.
ZC Managing Director Givemore Makoni described the tour as another important milestone in the growth of women’s cricket in Zimbabwe.
“We are pleased to welcome South Africa Women to Zimbabwe for what promises to be a historic and exciting series,” said Makoni.
“South Africa are one of the strongest teams in world cricket and this tour presents our players with a valuable opportunity to test themselves against elite opposition in home conditions.
“This series reflects Zimbabwe Cricket’s continued commitment to investing in the women’s game and creating more opportunities for our players to compete at the highest level.
“We believe these matches will contribute significantly to the development of our national team while also inspiring the next generation of women to take up the sport.”
The series is expected to attract huge interest from local cricket fans as Zimbabwe Women continue their push to establish themselves on the international stage.
