Two contestants of Zimbabwean heritage, Simba Kudyiwa and Angelista Gunda, are generating buzz on the latest season of Love Island UK, with their growing connection fast becoming one of the villa’s most talked-about storylines.

The pair are part of a rising wave of contestants with Zimbabwean roots appearing on international television, attracting attention from audiences in both the United Kingdom and back home.

Angelista, a 24-year-old nurse from Staffordshire, entered the ITV reality dating show as an original islander. Simba, also 24 and a neurological rehabilitation assistant from Enfield, joined the villa days later as a “bombshell” contestant — a role designed to disrupt existing relationships and shift dynamics.

Long before viewers saw Simba choose Angelista, speculation had already begun online that she would be his preferred match.

Ahead of his entry, Simba’s brother appeared to hint on social media that he would gravitate towards one of the darker-skinned contestants, with fans quickly linking the posts to Angelista. The speculation gained momentum after he reportedly engaged with comments suggesting she would be Simba’s choice. When he eventually entered the villa and coupled up with Angelista, many viewers felt the predictions had been confirmed.

His decision immediately reshaped the villa dynamics. Angelista had been coupled with fellow islander Ope Sowande, but Simba’s arrival introduced a new romantic direction. The pair later shared a kiss, triggering one of the season’s most dramatic confrontations and placing them at the centre of ongoing villa tensions.

Love Island UK, one of Britain’s most-watched reality television shows, follows singles living together in a luxury villa as they form relationships while navigating recouplings, public votes and surprise twists. The programme attracts millions of viewers each season and regularly dominates social media conversation.

For many Zimbabweans, Simba and Angelista’s presence on the show represents more than reality TV entertainment. Their participation has sparked excitement and pride among fans celebrating Zimbabwean representation on one of the UK’s biggest entertainment platforms.

With their storyline still unfolding, viewers will be watching closely to see whether the Zimbabwean pair can turn their early connection into one of the season’s defining relationships.
