FOUR young Zimbabweans raised the country’s flag high when they secured four out of ten awards at the Global Digital Forum held in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, last week.
The forum is a prominent international event that brings together participants from various sectors to discuss and advance digital innovation, international cooperation in the digital sphere, and internet security.
Last week’s forum, which took place on Thursday and Friday, hosted 2 800 participants from 165 countries, including representatives from international organisations, governments, businesses, and academia.
Representing Zimbabwe were students from the National University of Science and Technology (NUST) and a youth expert, Farirai Mageza, who participated in the International Internet Security School for Youth, a key feature of the event.
The Zimbabwean team stood out among fierce international competition, earning recognition for innovative solutions in Safety, Society, International Cooperation, and Media.
In the competitive Society Track, Tinodaishe Chipikiri and Bridget Sibanda excelled, while Farirai Mageza topped the Media Track and Kudzai Zhuwaki distinguished herself in the International Cooperation Track.
A panel of global tech experts recognised the best innovations from around the world during an awards ceremony.
Reflecting on the experience, one of the students, Bridget Sibanda, described the event as transformative. “This outstanding performance underscores the immense potential of Zimbabwe’s youth in the digital arena and demonstrates what can be achieved through quality education and targeted skills development,” she said.
As the world takes notice of Zimbabwe’s emerging digital talent, this achievement is expected to inspire more young people to pursue careers in technology and propel the country’s digital transformation agenda forward.
The winners’ achievements in fields ranging from cybersecurity to international digital cooperation indicate a promising future for Zimbabwe’s technology sector.
The Global Digital Forum has become a leading platform for promoting digital innovation, and Zimbabwe’s outstanding performance signals its readiness to contribute to the global digital economy.
