Zimbabweans in US rally behind education development

A delegation of Zimbabweans based at St Louis in the United States of America, has pledged to invest in the country’s education sector, following a meeting with the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Torerai Moyo.

The group expressed interest in school construction and Public-Private Partnerships (PPPs) to improve learning facilities in the country in line with Vision 2030.

The diaspora community also offered technical expertise and strategic guidance to enhance education quality and accessibility, leaving no one and no place behind as envisaged by President Mnangagwa.

Minister Moyo revealed this in a recent interview saying the Government welcomes partnerships, citing their potential to drive sustainable national development.

“I am pleased to share that during my recent visit to the United States, I had the distinct honour of meeting with a vibrant and committed group of Zimbabwean diaspora residing in the City of St Louis, Missouri,” he said.

“This engagement was both inspiring and productive as it reaffirmed the enduring bond between our nation and its citizens abroad.”

Minister Moyo said the meeting focused on collaborative opportunities in the education sector, particularly in the area of infrastructure development, adding that he was deeply encouraged by the strong interest expressed the compatriots in investing in the construction of schools across the country.

“Their passion for contributing to the transformation of our education system is a testament to their unwavering patriotism and commitment to national development,” he said.

Minister Moyo said a significant number of the diaspora members expressed a keen desire to engage in PPPs, with a focus on school construction and the provision of modern learning facilities.

These partnerships, he said, are not only welcome but are essential to accelerating the ministry’s vision of ensuring that every Zimbabwean child has access to quality education in a conducive learning environment.

“Moreover, I was heartened by the willingness of several professionals within the diaspora community to offer technical expertise and strategic guidance to the ministry,” he said.

“Their global exposure and wealth of experience present a valuable resource that can enhance our policy formulation, curriculum development, and implementation of innovative educational models.”

As a ministry, Minister Moyo said they were committed to creating an enabling environment that facilitates such partnerships.

He said Government will be working closely with relevant agencies to streamline processes, provide clarity on investment frameworks, and ensure transparency and accountability in all collaborative efforts.

“To our brothers and sisters in the diaspora your contributions are not only welcome they are vital. Together, we can build a resilient and inclusive education system that empowers future generations and drives sustainable national development,” he said.

Minister Moyo extended sincere gratitude to the Zimbabwean community in St Louis for their hospitality, vision, and unwavering dedication to the motherland.

During his visit to USA, Minister Moyo had an opportunity to meet Mr Warren Meyer, an American millionaire and philanthropist who donated 500 laptops and 500 tablets to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. The shipment of digital tools is in progress.

“We hope to receive the computers either February or March 2026,” said Minister Moyo.
