ZIMDANCEHALL CHANTER IN HIGH SPEED DRUG CHASE DRAMA: Ras Pompy jailed after crashing drug delivery Honda Fit

ZIMDANCEHALL star Ras Pompy, real name Nyasha Reginald Mano, will be trading the stage for a prison cell after he was convicted of unlawful possession of cough syrups.

The 24-year-old chanter was slapped with a six-month jail term by Harare magistrate Gamuchirai Gore following a dramatic high-speed chase that ended in a crash.

According to a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ), on 16 July 2025, detectives spotted Ras Pompy driving a black Honda Fit that was “known to supply drugs in the greater Harare area.”

“The vehicle was signaled to pull over but sped off into a residential area, leading to a high-speed chase,” read the statement.
The wild chase came to an end when the musician’s vehicle smashed into a metal pole. Detectives moved in and arrested Ras Pompy on the spot.

A search of the vehicle turned up a black bag stuffed with:
• 24 bottles of Broncleer cough syrup,
• 20 bottles of Benylin, and
• 55 bottles of Astra Pain cough syrup.
The haul has a street value of US$396.

“The offender was sentenced to an effective six months prison term,” the statement confirmed.
Authorities say Ras Pompy’s case should serve as a warning to other would-be dealers.

“Drug abuse and illegal trafficking are destroying lives and communities across Zimbabwe. Cases like this highlight the serious consequences of choosing the drug trade over honest living,” read the statement.
Fans of the popular chanter will now have to wait at least half a year before they hear his trademark hits again — and this time, the only bars he’ll be dropping are the ones in his jail cell.
