ZIMDANCEHALL music will once again take centre stage tomorrow as some of the genre’s hottest chanters headline the 66th Castle Tankard horse race at Borrowdale Racecourse.

With the genre continuing to dominate local entertainment circles, organisers have roped in crowd-pullers from the Zimdancehall genre, who include Madedido, Jah Master and Uncle Epatan, to spice up the glamorous event.

The trio, which recently made headlines during the Harare Cup Clash contest, is expected to draw thousands of youthful fans who continue to rally behind Zimdancehall music.

Their inclusion at one of Zimbabwe’s biggest lifestyle events also confirms how the genre has grown into a major force capable of sharing the stage with mainstream acts at premium festivals.

One fan, Tanaka Moyo from Mbare, said this year’s entertainment package was exciting.

“Zimdancehall is now carrying the culture. When Jah Master and Madedido are on the line-up you know the vibe will be crazy. Castle Tankard is no longer just for horse racing lovers only, even us the youths now feel represented,” he said.

Apart from the Zimdancehall crop, organisers have also assembled a diverse line-up blending both old-school and contemporary sounds.

Sungura musician Progress Chipfumo is expected to make his debut appearance at the festival and has already promised fireworks.

He will represent the genre with seasoned star Alick Macheso, who is not new to Castle Tankard.

Popular female chanter Nisha Ts will also return to the big stage backed by her energetic all-female band.

Known for her lively performances and commanding stage presence, Nisha Ts is expected to add glamour and excitement to the event.

The Castle Tankard has over the years evolved into more than just a horse race.

It is now regarded as one of the country’s biggest social gatherings where sport, fashion, betting, food, music and entertainment come together under one roof.

Running under the theme “Live It. Feel It. Share It,” tomorrow’s event is expected to attract thousands of revellers, punters and socialites from across the country.

During the afternoon, all eyes will be on the race track where 20 horses are expected to battle for honours in the prestigious race.

Punters will also be hoping to strike gold as betting fever grips the venue.

Delta Corporation marketing director Irimayi Muzorewa recently said organisers were committed to maintaining world-class standards associated with the annual festival.

“The prestige and passion draw elite horses, skilled jockeys and dedicated trainers from across the region to compete for a US$50 000 stake,” said Muzorewa.

“Anticipation is already building as leading contenders prepare to chase one of the season’s most coveted trophies, which we are proud to be part of.”

Last year’s Castle Tankard also attracted huge crowds and delivered memorable entertainment moments as music fans partied late into the night after the races.

The event has steadily grown into a national attraction, with many attendees now treating it as a yearly social calendar highlight.

From thrilling horse races and celebrity appearances to pulsating performances and fashion statements, the Castle Tankard continues to cement its place as one of Zimbabwe’s premier entertainment and sporting festivals.
