THE chief executive officer of the most diversified media group, Zimpapers (1980) Ltd, Pikirayi Deketeke was on Monday night elected president of the Zimbabwe Association of Publishers (ZAP).

Deketeke was elected in absentia while the chief executive officer of AB Communications Benson Mbewe was elected vice president.

Alpha Media Holdings editor-in-chief Wisdom Mdzungairi was elected treasurer while Nelson Mashiri, Happiness Zengeni and Virginia Takaona are committee members.

Election of the new leadership was done in conjunction with the Voluntary Media Council of Zimbabwe.

The new ZAP leadership replaces the interim one which was in office since 2020.

Speaking after the elections Mponda said the association was important for publishers to represent their own interests rather than having other people who were not in the media industry, representing them.
