Zimpapers diversifies into courier services

Sunday Mail Reporter

ZIMBABWE’S largest integrated media house, Zimbabwe Newspapers (1980) Limited, has diversified its operations to include courier services on its already established footprint in newspaper printing, broadcasting and digital publishing.

The new business venture marks a strategic shift by the diversified media group, which is anchored in the backbone of over a century’s experience in newspaper deliveries to compete in the country’s growing logistics and last-mile delivery sector.

The group’s corporate communications and sustainability manager, Mrs Pauline Matanda, said the courier service builds on long-standing distribution systems that have ensured timely delivery of publications across the country for decades.

She said the introduction of courier services reflects Zimpapers’ commitment to innovation and sustainable growth.

“As a business, we continuously explore opportunities that complement our core operations while creating value for our stakeholders. Our entry into courier services is a natural progression of our diversification strategy.

“We already have proven routes, established logistics systems and experienced personnel who understand the importance of consistent and timely delivery,” Mrs Matanda said.

The Zimpapers’ courier service is now available to the public and operating within strategic economic routes that connect the capital to key provincial hubs.

It is already servicing key intercity routes between Harare and Mutare, Harare and Gweru, Harare and Bindura, as well as Harare and Chinhoyi.

The initiative is part of the group’s broader diversification strategy aimed at leveraging existing infrastructure, distribution networks and operational expertise to unlock new revenue streams beyond traditional media operations.

Mrs Matanda added that the courier service will cater for individuals, small-to-medium enterprises and corporates seeking reliable intercity parcel delivery.

“The same discipline that ensures our publications reach readers on time is now being extended to courier services. Our clients are assured their parcels are handled within a structured, dependable system,” she added.

The launch underscores Zimpapers’ evolving business model as it seeks to remain competitive in an evolving media and commercial landscape, while capitalising on synergies within its established distribution network.”
