Zimpapers group yesterday held a party for its editorial and supporting staff in appreciation of their performance during the harmonised elections. Zimpapers group chief executive Mr Justin Mutasa paid tribute to staff for their dedication to duty and diligent service during the elections. “Everyone rose beyond their call of duty. The newspapers, Star FM, Online and the cartoons kept the people of Zimbabwe well informed of what was happening,” he said.
“Today we are celebrating this great institution called Zimpapers. We are here to defend the national values of our country. We are here to defend the national interest of our country and we do not apologise for that. Everything went well. We want to improve the quality of products through value addition,” he said.
He said information was vital and Zimpapers performed well in disseminating the needed information.
Mr Mutasa said Zimpapers was in the process of installing a digitalised printing press to add value to its products.
He paid tribute to journalists who excelled during the coverage of the just-ended harmonised elections for the excellent work through news gathering and photography. He also thanked the Zimpapers advertisers whom he said kept the company going.
Zimpapers chief operations officer Mr Pikirayi Deketeke said the company was investing in journalism and it was beginning to show results.
“We are now putting together radio, online and newspapers. Zimpapers is 100 years old and some people think we are old and irrelevant but you have demonstrated that we are relevant and current. We have done extremely well and we need to keep it up,” he said.
