Chimedza said the educational learning material was distributed to local bookshops while the company was also making efforts to reach out to schools outside the cities.
Zimpapers donated US$5 700 towards the prize giving day while FBC Bank donated US$ 3 000.
The educational material includes charts, puzzles and biological models designed for children attending early childhood development classes and those attending high school.
Kwayedza newspaper, one of the various newspapers published by Zimpapers, has also started running an educational section where school children access knowledge on poetry, analysis of set books and tips on writing compositions.
The Gutu Better Schools Programme of Zimbabwe (BSPZ) has embarked on the construction of a resource centre with the assistance of local businesses.
The complex would house a library expected to cater for surrounding schools, a hall, computer room, and offices for education staff.
After touring the resource centre construction site, Dr Chimedza said the building was a result of commitment, hard work and generosity of the people of Gutu.
“I want to encourage the leaders of Gutu BSPZ to continue doing the good work.
“The co-operation we see among stakeholders in this programme is highly appreciated as it helps to pool talent, skills and resources that help promote educational development,” he said.
The BSPZ also acquired laptops for the district office, which would be used for the production of reports, risographs, early childhood development kits for primary schools in the district and teaching and learning textbooks.
“All these go a long way in promoting a conducive learning environment.
“It is my plea that Gutu district, under the stewardship of the district education office, will continue to be innovative so that Gutu will take its rightful place as the powerhouse of education not only in the province but also in the country,” said Dr Chimedza.
Songs, traditional dances and poems from primary and secondary schools in the area marked the ceremony.
Pupils that won prizes went home with some cash and books.
