TWO Zimpapers journalists, Tawanda Musarurwa and Judith Phiri, were honoured for their occupational safety and health reporting at the National Social Security Authority’s (NSSA) 63rd Safety and Health at Work (SHAW) Conference and Awards in Victoria Falls on Saturday evening.

Musarurwa won Gold in the Journalistic Award (Print) category, while Phiri took Silver.

Their work on occupational safety and health issues has helped raise public awareness of workplace safety, employee welfare and the importance of preventive measures.

Phiri said she was honoured to receive the award, which she dedicated to fellow journalists who continue to highlight occupational safety and health issues.

“I am honoured to receive this award,” she said.

NewsDay’s Jonah Nyoni won Bronze in the same category, completing the list of journalists recognised for their print reporting on occupational safety and health.

The SHAW conference, now in its 63rd edition, is a key national platform for promoting safe and healthy workplaces. It brings together employers, workers, regulators and the media to discuss progress and challenges in occupational safety and health.

Other awards presented at the event included the Industrial Assessment 2026 Premier Shield, where Zimplats Concentrators (SMC and Ngezi) emerged as the overall winner. Zimplats Mufuti Mine was first runner-up, while BOC Zimbabwe (Harare) was second runner-up.

In the National Awards, Leengate Pvt Ltd Harare won Gold in the Most Improved Company category, followed by Dinson Iron and Steel Company, which received Silver, and Doves Holdings Harare, which took Bronze.

Bitumen World (Pvt) Ltd Harare was also recognised among civil engineering contractors.

The awards recognise achievements in workplace safety and health, while highlighting the role of the media in promoting awareness and a culture of prevention.
