job losses due to improved technological efficiency, Mr Mutasa confirmed the company had bought a printing press from India and some of the workers would be redeployed while others would be retrained.
The reports came after the Zimpapers annual general meeting yesterday.
He said installation of the new printing press would be done soon.
“We have acquired the latest printing press which is already in the country. We have cleared with customs and it shall be installed shortly,” he said. “This is a milestone achievement in the history of the company because it is fully digitalised. It will lead to great efficiency in the production process; improve capacity and quality within a short period.”
Mr Mutasa said skilled and experienced staff would be retrained. “I want to assure staff that this article which has appeared in some sections of the media is misleading,” he said.
“We have already embarked on multi-skilling of staff because we have a high skills base which has built this company. Some of the staff shall be redeployed and some will be retained. We are shortly going to start commercial printing in Mutare because of its proximity to Mozambique, particularly Beira. It means some of the staff will be redeployed to Mutare.”
He said the company would also start the Zimpapers Education Programme and staff would be redeployed. “This is a diverse company and I would like to retain the skills of my staff because some of the staff has served the company with loyalty and dedication,” Mr Mutasa said.
