Zimpost celebrates Africa postal day

services in Africa.
In his message to mark the day, Papu secretaty-general Mr Younouss Djibrine said that the African continent was very much alive to the increasing importance of modernisation and diversification of postal services and products as it counters the decline in the traditional postal traffic.

“In Africa, we have seen not only sustained transformation of postal products and services, but also the way the post is doing business. For example, today no postal operator is averse to deploying modern ICT systems to effect money transfer on realtime basis.

“Through the active participation of the Papu, member countries, including the least developed countries, are witnessing an increased use of ICT-based systems to track and trace EMS items and registers,” he said.

Zimpost has said it is making strides in transforming its postal services in line with modern trends. The organisation is at an advanced stage in implementing a counter automation system, which involves automating all customer service transactions.

The company also said it is in the process of introducing Hybrid Mail services and International Financial System, which allows Zimpost to receive and cash out money sent from other countries.

At least 60 percent of Papu member countries are at various stages of implementing or investing in automation of point of sale, finance and back office operations to improve efficiency and reduce wastage.
