LLOYD Tevedzai, a member of popular gospel group ZimPraise of Musaputse sungano fame, broke the covenant after he ditched his bride-to-be Ruth Chari and went on to announce the cancellation of their wedding through Facebook.
The two were reportedly customarily married in June and were supposed to have a “white” wedding in December.
Tevedzai wrote on his Facebook wall: “I am no longer with Ruth Chari the wedding is cancelled, I am sorry my fans.”
This sad development comes at a time when other male group members have been accused of using their newly found fame to lure girls.
Fans have also accused Tevedzai of using Facebook as a platform to prove to his other “mistress” that he is now single.
Speaking on condition of anonymity, a source close to the group revealed to Chronicle Entertainment that it was a shame that ZimPraise members were more into fame rather than ministering the word of God.
“These guys spend most of their time looking for ways to win girls and it is true that some of them are womanisers. They are using their newly found fame to entice young girls into illicit relationships,” she said.
The source said if they were truly ministering the word of God, their behaviour should be in line with the what they preach.
Efforts to get a comment from the group’s chief executive officer, Pastor Joseph Madziyire, were fruitless, as he, together with the group, are out of the country on their debut United Kingdom tour.
Thirty singers out of the 80-member group are on the tour that saw them perform in Birmingham on 2 November. The group has a show lined up for tomorrow at Luton as well as at various churches across England.
This tour comes after the group’s successful Season Six live DVD launch at the Harare International Conference Centre which was dubbed “It’s all about Jesus”.
The ZimPraise team includes some of the choir’s leading vocalists Sharon Manyonganise, Wellington Kwenda, Tevedzai and Dumisani Chitukutu.
The group last month lost one of its key members, Marbel Madondo who left the group with other members and formed a new band, Thousand Voices.
