An official at Founders High School, said the deadline was today, so that they make time to sort out the registration forms in time for the 11 May Zimsec deadline.
“If pupils do not register tomorrow they will have to go and register in Harare,” said the official.
She said after today, the school would not accept any pupils who want to register.
“We do not want to post registration forms to Zimsec late, that is why we have set that particular deadline and the parents were told about it before hand,” said the official.
She said there was no way they could adjust their cut-off date, as it gave the school ample time to arrange the applications.
“Zimsec has its own deadline that we should stick to and this school has a deadline that the pupils should stick to as well,” she said.
At Eveline Girls High, an official said the window for registration for internal candidates had been closed.
“At the moment only private candida-tes are still registering,” said the official.
Contacted for comment, Zimsec spokesperson Mr Ezekiel Pasipamire said it was difficult for the examinations regulating body to propose registration deadlines to schools.
“We cannot dictate what to do, it is the schools that are supposed to communicate with the parents in time so that there are no inconveniences,” said Mr Pasipamire.
He urged schools to be more lenient to parents.
“Setting the school deadline for registration a month before ours is a bit unfair to them. They should at least be lenient. In any case we cannot intervene in their private matters and we cannot be the ones to tell them what to do,” said Mr Pasipamire.
