The Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency has rolled out the 2025 Zimbabwe Social Registry Survey, a landmark data collection initiative aimed at strengthening social protection, poverty reduction and inclusive development across the country.
In a statement, ZIMSTAT director-general Mrs Tafadzwa Bandama said the survey will provide a unified and reliable data system to identify and support vulnerable households while promoting transparency and coordination in social programmes.
“The social registry will serve as a single source of facts for identifying households that may require social protection and development assistance,” she said.
“It will help the Government and development partners plan, implement and monitor interventions more effectively and equitably.”
The first phase of the survey would cover Mangwe, Nkayi and Mudzi districts, accounting for about two percent of the national population, before expanding to all 65 districts nationwide.
“This is a crucial step towards ensuring that no one is left behind as Zimbabwe moves towards Vision 2030,” Mrs Bandama said.
“By collecting accurate household-level data, we are laying the foundation for improved service delivery and better-targeted social programs.”
The survey will gather information on demographics, education, employment, housing, land ownership, access to services and household vulnerabilities.
Mrs Bandama also urged all in the pilot districts to cooperate with enumerators and said the credibility and success of the initiative depend on public participation.
The 2025 Social Registry Survey is being implemented by ZIMSTAT in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare, with financial and technical support from the Government of Zimbabwe, SIDA, SDC, ECHO, the World Bank, UNICEF and the World Food Programme.
“This is more than a data exercise. It is a national investment in social justice, inclusion and evidence-based policymaking,” Mrs Bandama said.
