Zimta games kick off in Bulawayo today

THE annual Zimta inter-provincial games get underway this morning at the United College of Education in Bulawayo with teachers competing in athletics ahead of the official opening of the tournament later in the day.

According to the programme, athletics will be held from 6AM to 8AM before the teachers are addressed by acting Bulawayo provincial education director, Olicah Kaira.

Zimta chief executive officer, Sifiso Ndlovu, said the teachers will compete in football, netball, basketball, volleyball, athletics, darts, tennis, table tennis and chess. Before the teams checked in at UCE yesterday, they visited Hlekwini Farm whi ch is owned by the trade union on the outskirts of Bulawayo.

The games run from today up to Sunday and a team to represent Zimbabwe at the Southern African Teachers’ Organisation (Sato) regional games to be hosted by Bulawayo will be named.

Countries expected to send representatives to the Sato games are Zambia, Botswana, Malawi, Lesotho, Tanzania, South Africa, Swaziland and Namibia.
