ZIMBABWE’S premier tourism magazine, ZimTravel hogged the limelight at the Megafest Tourism Awards ceremony in Victoria Falls at the weekend, winning the Allied Partner of Tourism and Hospitality Award while the magazine’s editor, Isdore Guvamombe, won the Tourism Image Builder of the Year Award.
Besides numerous personal journalistic awards, Guvamombe has retained the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority’s Tourism Personality of the Year Award since 2012.
ZimTravel, on the other hand, faced stiff competition from Air Zimbabwe, DHL, MARS, Pote Hill Hotel, Victoria Falls Municipality, Zimbabwe Manpower Development Fund and Vulcan Zimbabwe who were in the same category.
In March this year, ZimTravel won an international award, the Gold Category Geneva 2015 Century International Quality Era Award that is sponsored by the Business Initiative Directions (BID) through Imarpress Media Publications.
BID is an internationally acclaimed business quality barometer company based in Madrid, Spain, and has been awarding companies like Grant Thornton among others since 1986.
The award is given in recognition of those companies or organisations in different countries throughout the world that further their reputation and position by implementing and promoting a quality culture.
BID has so far awarded companies and professionals from 179 different countries globally since 1986 and is known for organising events and publishing newspapers, books, magazines and reports for television in English, Spanish, French, Russian and Portuguese.
Accepting the award, Guvamombe said recognition by Megafest was a clear testimony of how hard, Zimpapers in general and the ZimTravel team in particular were toiling towards rebranding Zimbabwe, as among the safest and most attractive tourist destinations in the world.
He dedicated the award to team ZimTravel, adding that it would even spur the team to work harder in future.
“By accepting the award in recognition of our sterling work as team ZimTravel in promoting the destination Zimbabwe, it means we have set a bar for ourselves. We should therefore continue to work towards taking that bar to another level.
“We thank Megafest for the recognition they have bestowed on us,” he said.
ZimTravel is a monthly premier tourism magazine whose thrust is to promote Zimbabwean tourism and its tapestries. It is published by Zimpapers in partnership with the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority and Air Zimbabwe.
It is the official in-flight magazine for Air Zimbabwe.
