ZIMUTO High School emerged as the first runner-up in the debate category in the Pan African Universities Debate Championships held in Togo.
The team, consisting of Solace Zunza, Theophilous Beans, Vespers Makadho, and Nicole Jirivengwa, received praise from the school’s headmaster, Mr Mashava, and the school’s patron and major sponsor, Dr Johannes Marisa.
The debate team’s achievement has been celebrated by the Masvingo community and described as a source of pride for Zimbabwe.
Mashava, said they were over the moon and very proud of their team’s achievement.
“We are proud of the team for representing the school and Zimbabwe with excellence.
“Zimuto ndomuto, ndiyo delicious soup ye-Zimbabwe this festive season. We say enjoy this festive season with Zimuto High in your mind.
“These students are saying drive safely, do not drink and drive and stop abusing children,” said Mashava.
Dr Marisa also urged corporate entities to support schools and teams when they represent the nation and to protect children’s physical and psychological well-being.
“My whole Westview Clinics staff are already in celebratory mood because of what these Zimuto High School students have done for Zimbabwe, their school and me. Zimuto has automatically become the pride of Masvingo and Zimbabwe.
“I urge the corporate to respond when positively whenever someone, a team or school are going to represent the nation. Look now, they have won it for us as Zimbabwe.
