claims, arguing that revenue collection was being put to its intended purpose with local authorities getting quarterly disbursements.
MDC-T said little, if not nothing, was being remitted towards road maintenance.
“The national executive noted that road maintenance in local councils was poor and said that this was as a result of Zinara taking all the revenue for motor vehicles and remitting little if anything to the councils for road maintenance.”
In an interview after the party’s national executive council meeting, MDC-T spokesperson Mr Douglas Mwonzora insisted that his party had gathered sufficient evidence showing that Zinara was abusing road funds.
“We stand by our resolution. Zinara is not remitting money towards road maintenance and that evidence will be made available to anyone who will ask for it,” he said.
Zinara, however, denied any wrongdoing, saying all its activities were above board. Zinara spokesperson Mr Augustine Moyo said this year his organisation only purchased two new vehicles for two managers. Mr Moyo said the vehicles were Ford Ranger twin cabs.
The two vehicles, a Ford Ranger T6 and Ford Ranger Limited Edition, cost around US$120 000. He said other senior managers were using Toyota Hilux twin cabs that were purchased in 2010 and early last year.
“In 2012, Zinara only purchased two vehicles. The rest of the managers are using Toyota D4D Hilux purchased in 2010 and early last year. We are not likely going to purchase more vehicles this year,” he said.
