ZNA retain title

tournament staged at Midlands Hotel in Gweru on Saturday.
ZNA dominated most of the senior men’s weight divisions.
The event attracted 89 fighters from Harare, Mashonaland East, Midlands, Mashonaland West, and ZNA with participants taking part in the paperweight, pinweight, light-welterweight, lightweight, bantamweight, middleweight and the light-heavyweight divisions.
In the light-heavyweight category the title went to Tinashe Mabika and Nelson Mativenga of Midlands who beat Munyaradzi Magwaza and Philani Nyoni respectively to scoop the title.
Justice Dube of ZNA beat Prince Kata of Midlands on points in the lightweight division while his team-mate Ndodana Moyo knocked out Tatenda Tukuta of Midlands in the second round. In the light-welterweight division Steven Masiyambumbi of ZNA beat Gunet Zulu of Midlands. ZNA’s Last Magare beat Emmanuel Mashiri on points in the middleweight category and his team-mate Ronald Chaikosa defeated Kelvin Madoda of Midlands. John Andrew of Mashonaland East beat Heavyton Mabhiza of Midlands in another middleweight division while Tatenda Edwin won by a walkover against Walter Magwenzi. In the women’s section, Fortunate Chidziva of ZNA defeated Tsitsi Zishiri of Hippo Valley in the bantamweight division while Nyarai Taonekwa of Hippo Valley beat Dambudzo Sithole of Midlands.
Zaba technical director Petros Masiyambumbi was satisfied with the skills displayed by the local fighters at the competition.
“The competition was good as compared to last year and it shows that most of the fighters were better prepared.
