ZNA warns public of fake recruitment agents

The Zimbabwe National Army (ZNA) is warning the public to be wary of illegal notices circulating on social media purporting that the organisation was recruiting members through the platform.

In a statement on Tuesday, ZNA Director, Army Public Relations, Lieutenant Colonel Alphios Makotore, advised job seekers to be wary of criminal elements that were duping people and soliciting for payments in return for recruitment into the army.

“The ZNA would like to advice the public that it does not have recruitment agents and does not recruit through social media.

“The ZNA has noted with concern that there are some criminal elements who are duping job seekers and soliciting payments in return for recruitment into the army,” he said.

Lt Col Makotore said all recruitment programmes were advertised in the mainstream print and electronic media first before prospective applicants responded through written applications followed by selections at different military cantonments.

He said no one should pay for having interest to serve in the organisation and that members of the public were advised to ask for letters of authorisation and identity documents whenever they saw suspicious persons claiming to be army recruitment members and that they should report at the nearest army camp or police station.

“Members of the public are free to seek clarification from army recruiting office on (04) 707459 or army public relations directorate on (04) 700316 or Zimbabwe Military Police on (04) 790591,” he said.

Scores of unsuspecting members of the public have been duped of their money by criminal elements impersonating army recruitment officers over the last few months.

Last month the Air Force of Zimbabwe and the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services issued warnings to the public of the same scams.
