THE Zimbabwe National Chamber of Commerce (ZNCC) has called for immediate removal of illegal sanctions imposed on the country by Western countries as they are negatively affecting business growth and draining the economy.
Sanctions against Zimbabwe have been piling up since 2001 following the Government’s successful implementation of the land reform programme which sought to redress a skewed colonial land ownership system favouring minority white farmers.
Sadc declared October 25 as the Day of Solidarity Against Sanctions on Zimbabwe and there have been growing calls for the illegal sanctions, that were imposed as punishment for the land reform programme, to be unconditionally removed.
Various stakeholders including civic society have over the past few years joined the call, with African Heads of State leading the campaign.
Business was the missing voice for the removal of sanctions, delegates attending the ongoing ZNCC 2023 annual congress concurred.
Chairperson of Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) and Immediate Past President of Kenya National
Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNCCI) Mr Kiprono Kittony raised the issue this morning while presenting about Transforming Economic Realities into Market Opportunities.

“As Zimbabwe you need to start a conversation on how to remove sanctions against Zimbabwe. You need to bring back your own currency,” said Mr Kittony.
ZNCC past president Mr Tamuka Macheka who was chairing the session said the industry voice should be very clear in terms of calling for removal of sanctions.
While the conference is ongoing, he said the issue of removal of sanctions will be top on the resolution list.
