Zoc appoints ticket agent

THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee say they will not directly sell the Rio 2016 Olympic Games tickets and have appointed Kingdom Sports Group as the sole ticket distributor for the local sports body.

KSG have been appointed on the basis that they are accredited by the International Olympic Committee to resale the tickets, hospitality and packages for the Games and ZOC say they do not have any other company acting on their behalf.

ZOC chief executive, Anna Mguni, said the agreements were done through the IOC and any other company that may try to resale will be sued.

“Those agreements are done through the International Olympic Committee. We always pick a ticketing agent. The only thing ZOC can do is to verify if the people buying the tickets are Zimbabweans.

“The tickets are limited because there are many spectators who want to come and watch (the Games). They are based on the history of sport disciplines that a country has participated in before. So you will find that we will not get tickets for boxing or table tennis because Zimbabwe is not represented in the two disciplines.

“The IOC will only allocate for those disciplines that a country will participate in, for example athletics, swimming and (women’s) football, all those tickets will be available but they are limited,” said Mguni.

Mguni said the National Olympic Committee will only receive a certain percentage of their ticket sales revenue after the Games, which is likely to be between five to 10 percent.

ZOC is responsible for registering every member of the delegation, that is the athletes, officials and dignitaries for the Games.

And all individuals, interested parties and stakeholders interested in attending the Games have to apply on their personal basis.

ZOC cannot provide accreditation as this is restricted to the categories of participant, official or designated dignitary.
