ZOC development officer, Primrose Mhunduru, said the Press attaché will be responsible for communication.
“We are going to have a press attaché who will be part of the management.
“Basically the attaché will be the contact person between the organisers and our team.
“We will be able to give the full information after the board meeting on the 25th of February as to who is going to be the press attaché,” said Mhunduru.
Mhunduru also revealed that the national Olympic committee will appoint a deputy chef de mission for the London Games.
“ZOC is going to appoint a deputy chef de mission the reason being that we have rowing athletes who qualified for the Games.
“The venue for Rowing will be in Eton which is a different venue from London and the London Organising Committee of the Olympic Games have given every NOC that has rowing athletes the spot for the deputy chef de mission.
“This is also going to be released after the board meeting. However, the process has begun to find that person,” said Mhunduru.
Zimbabwe has two rowers – Micheen Thornycroft and Jamie Fraser Mckenzie who have qualified for the Games.
The ZOC development officer said they are expecting to send a team of 22 athletes and 19 officials.
“Right now we have seven athletes who have qualified.
“We are hoping Zimbabwe will send 22 athletes mostly by qualification and some on wild cards. They will be accompanied by 19 officials.
“End of May is the deadline for qualification and in June that’s when the allocation of wild cards we be done. That is when we will know how many athletes we will take,” said Mhunduru.
Mhunduru said Zimbabwe have a chance to get the targeted number of athletes to represent the nation in London.
“We have high chances considering that the qualifying period is up to May.
“We still have five athletes on scholarships who are yet to qualify.
“We have a deadline of March 23 to submit our long. We have to submit the names of those that are possible qualifiers.
“Right now we are collecting information from those people for accreditation,” said Mhunduru.
Mhunduru said they were also holding monthly meetings with the management teams for updates on what is happening with the athletes.
“We began team management meetings last year. These meetings gives us updates to the athletes’ training programmes as well as those on qualification programmes,” said Mhunduru.
