RAUNCHY pole dancer-cum musician Noleen “Zoey” Sifelani hopes she will make it big on the local music scene and be ranked among the likes of Sandra Ndebele.Zoey released an eight track album Totsemukira last month and features former Utakataka Chanter Shiga Shiga and Dendera frontman Sulumani Chimbetu.

In an interview, the self-professed mother of pole dancing in Zimbabwe says she is no stranger to music as she was one of the backing vocalists to urban grooves artiste Roki Josphats.

“I have always been a musician and have worked with a number of artistes in the country as both a dancer and musician but now I decided to go commercial and do my thing. The album is doing well on the market and I know very soon I will be where Slizer or Sandra Ndebele is,” she said.

She said her music, Zoelicious as it is a mixture of rhumba, kwaito and rhythm and blues.

Zoey shot down critics who have accused her of tracing bitter rival Beverly Sibanda’s footsteps who was the first to diversify to music.
“Bev knows that I am a musician.  In fact the tracks that I have recorded were composed two years ago.  In music you must take your time and make everything perfect before hurrying to the studio,” she said.

Former dancer, Bev dropped her album Tapinda, introducing the Foshoro dance which she was optimistic would overtake sungura ace’s Alick Macheso Zora butter dance.  That was not to be.

She said she was now on top of the game as she has no competition in the dancing business.

“Business is brisk these days.  There is no competition now. I am struggling to meet demand. As for Bev’s dancers, the Sexy Angels, they are children to me, they are yet to make a mark, I don’t count them,” said Zoey sarcastically.

The soft-spoken entertainer took a dig at those who have quit business and joined famous a Harare prophet, Walter Magaya Prophetic, Healing and Deliverance Ministries. Prophet Magaya has reportedly opened shops for the converts.

“I am a regular church goer; I will not quit my trade because I have to commit to church after being lured by a church leader who will open a shop for me.  Being born again is a commitment that comes from the heart not from earthly riches,” she said.

Zoey said she was working on her debut DVD which would be released at the end of the year. Tracks on her album include Beautiful day, Zoey anopisa, Bonus-sugar, My Valentine featuring Sulumani Chimbetu.
