The players were in camp well before the Mashonaland South Amateur championships held at the weekend.
The tournament saw Clive Nguru consolidating his status as the country’s top amateur golfer as he won the tournament in Kadoma at the weekend.
The Chapman golfer had not won a tournament this season but managed to bag the third event of the season.
The defending champion carded 70, 33, 77 and 77 at the championships held at the Kadoma Golf Club.
Barry Painting and Ben Follet-Smith were tied on second place on 262.
Brett Krog and Gerth Dale settled for fourth and fifth places.
The first round of the tournament was affected by rain and the golfers played 27 holes instead of the usual 36-holes.
The points gained were used to select the team that will represent the country at the Zone Six Games in Malawi.
A total of 60 golfers took to the field and competition was high as two professionals also took part.
Tich Musemburi and Davidson Elijah were part of the field.
Nguru is leading the order of merit despite having lost his touch in his previous tournaments.
The golfer said he was thrilled with the victory.
“The game was good and I am happy that I managed to win the tournament.
“I think the first round helped me as I managed to lead by six shots.
“I was under pressure of winning a tournament after a dream season last year.
“Playing against Painting in the last round was not easy as he played very well and he put me under a bit of pressure.
“The competition was great and the course played so well despite the rains and I hope to continue doing well,’ Nguru said.
