STUDENTS have issued a sharp criticism of the Zimbabwe Open University (ZOU).
In a statement, ZOU National Students Representative Council (SRC) secretary for academic and legal affairs, Pierce Muzamba, said they were not happy with the current learning environment at the institution.
“The university should provide hard copy modules, study guides, good Wi-Fi service and face-to-face tutorials, because its tuition fees do not match the amount of work put in by the staff. It is important to note that the general populace of our students are civil servants earning below what the University is charging. The SRC is disappointed that the management has not finalised our key requirements, which include tutorials, modules and supervision of students.
“It is time for students to unite to ensure that no deserving student is left behind. Every student is complaining about what we pay versus what we get,” said Muzamba.
They said there haven’t been any meaningful tutorials since they were suspended due to the Covid-19 outbreak.
No response could be obtained from ZOU officials at the time of going to press.
