THE Zifa Southern Region Division One League champions ZPC Hwange are going to be crowned on Saturday in the coal mining town soon after their match against Mosi Rovers at Chikona ground.

Zifa Southern Region Division One action concludes on Sunday with a fixture between Victoria Falls City and Casymn that will be played at Chinotimba Stadium.

ZPC Hwange were declared champions and with it came a ticket to the Castle Lager Premier Soccer League (PSL).
The impressive power generators outfit wrapped up the title a couple of weeks ago with two matches still to be played in the campaign.

“Our league champions, ZPC Hwange are going to be officially crowned in Hwange on Saturday. We are going to present them with their medals and a trophy in a different and special way.

“After doing our homework, it’s going to be different from the way we have done it in the previous years. That is why we had to wait for the last day of the season to crown our champions,” said Zifa Southern Region Division One spokesperson, Blessing Mbandwa.

ZPC Hwange club secretary, Mehluli Thebe, is on record confirming that his club will be playing in the country’s elite football league.

In the Zifa Central Region Division One title race, ex-Chicken Inn coach Prince Matore, was left feeling on top of the wold after his Kwekwe United charges clinched the championship

In the process, Matore proved his capabilities as a coach in what only was his first year with the club. A distinguished player, good enough to be considered by Wieslaw Grawboski for a stint in Poland, Matore has for most of his coaching career played second fiddle to his mentor, Joey Antipas.

They worked together at Motor Action and at Chicken Inn. At some stage, they were together at AmaZulu in the South African Premiership.

Matore and his Kwekwe United charges became the first team from the City of Gold to play in the top-flight league since Lancashire Steel in 2009.

They won the league after taking an unassailable 71 points, shrugging off competition from Tongogara, Chapungu and Sheasham.

Matore took charge of Kwekwe United early this year after he parted ways with the Gamecocks.
Kwekwe United joined ZPC Hwange and Scottland who were crowned winners of the Southern Region and Northern Region Soccer Leagues.

In Eastern Region, Luke Masomere’s Triangle United are within striking range as FC Wangu Mazodze and Tenax FC are seeking to give a fight.
