ZPC Kariba 1-0 Chicken Inn
ZPC KARIBA stand-in coach Tembo Chuma quashed championship talk despite his team continuing with their unbeaten run when they edged Chicken Inn 1-0 at Gwanzura yesterday.
Chuma was in charge of the game in the absence of Saul Chaminuka who is attending the Caf A licence course.
The match started on a low pace with both teams creating very few chances in the first half with only former Motor Action and Highlanders player Bhekhi Ncube hitting a cracker that missed the target by a few inches.
A good run on the right by Clemence Matawu saw Ncube unleashing a powerful drive that missed the upright in the 42nd minute.
After half time ZPC Kariba returned a more purposeful side piling on the pressure in the opening minutes but the goal could not come.
Pride Tafirenyika who had a good game created several chances but it was Norest Mkwezvaramba who came in as a substitute who created the goal.
Mkwezvaramba had just come in for Trevor Chikede when his cross from a shot corner was met by Artwell Nyamiwa who had a free header to beat Elvis Chipezeze in goals for Chicken Inn.
Chuma believes they need to focus as they enter the second leg of the Premier League and expects the team to continue doing well.
“We are happy with the result and getting the maximum points is what is important and I now look forward to continue with the fine run. Going for 15 games without a defeat is encouraging and the players now have the winning attitude which is good for the team. We managed to stretch our opponents and got the goal,” he said.
Joey Antipas, the Chicken Inn coach, said it was sad that they conceded a soft goal.
“We played well and our strikers need to work hard as they could not utilise the few chances we had and we were punished for that. The defence is doing well but we need to work on the frontline so that we get the goals,” Antipas said.
