ZPC Munyati powered to the summit of the Zifa Central Soccer League table after routing struggling Mvuma Stars 3-0 at the weekend.

A brace by Nelson Mutambara and a solitary strike by Mandlenkosi Nyoni assured the power men maximum points taking their tally to 18 points off eight games.

The win ensured they remained the only unbeaten side in the league.

Rutherford Matondo, the ZPC Munyati mentor attributed his side’s fine run to teamwork, although he strangely declared they were not chasing the championship.

“We’re where we’re now because of the spirit in camp, which involves the sponsors, the executive and technical team right up to the players. The unity of purpose has manifested in the form of results on the field of play.

“However, we’re playing to maintain our place in the league since we’re a new side and gaining promotion (into the Premier Soccer League) isn’t our top priority. However, we’ll take each game as it comes and if anything happens, it’ll be a bonus for us,” Matondo said.

Elsewhere, Shabanie Mine maintained their 100 percent home record by edging Sable Chemicals 1-0.

A free kick by former Hardbody midfielder Clifford Nyoni in the 58th minute was enough to secure the asbestos miners their fourth win at Maglas Stadium in Zvishavane to move up to seventh on the league table on 13 points, five adrift of ZPC Munyati.

Shabanie Mine coach, Arnold Jani said his side needs to improve on its away record as they have only managed to get a single point in their travels.
